Sandfields Portraits
Sandfields is a diverse and densely populated neighbourhood adjacent to St Helens Road. These photographs were taken by Helen Griffin, who lived in the area for many years and loved it dearly. Her affection is clear in these candid portraits, which were taken around the year 2000. Most houses in Sandfields open directly onto the pavement and Helen was fascinated by the threshold between public and personal space. Helen died in 2018, but she always wanted her images to be shared and so her family have donated them to the archive.
